U2 groupe irlandais originaire de Dublin. Il est notamment connu pour les albums War, The Unforgettable Fire, The Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby, Zooropa, Pop et All That You Can’t Leave Behind. Les singles Sunday Bloody Sunday, New Year’s Day.
Je les ai découvert avec The Joshua Tree, acheté en cassette (neuve) en France.
La chanson est de John Lennon et fait partie de l’album très engagé » Sometimes in New York city » qui est passé un peu inaperçu et ne fait pas partie de ce qu’il a fait de mieux. C’était l’époque où, très inspiré par Yoko, il fréquentait les activistes américain Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin et Bobby Seal (black panthers) ce qui lui a valu d’être longtemps harcelé par le FBI puisqu’il demandait à résider aux États Unis. La carte verte lui a été accordée finalement en 1976 quand il a cessé son engagement politique.
Le dimanche 30 janvier 1972, une marche pacifique réunissait 20000 personnes à Londonderry pour exiger la libération des internés. Le premier bataillon du régiment parachutiste britannique stationné à Derry a ouvert le feu sur la foule, sans provocation ni sommation, tuant quatorze personnes et en blessant plusieurs dizaines.
